Depression in the forties

America had it bad in the thirties, and needed a New Deal and a war to recover; my depression arrived in my forties, and they weren't roaring, or much of a success, health-wise. In my lighter moments, I like to think of it as a 21st century depression, caused by pre-millenial stress. Or something.
